Overview

Circuits are a means of amplifying your library's media collections at minimal expense.

Participating libraries join any of several circuits - video on cassette or DVD, audio on cassette or CD, and foriegn films. Usually there is a one-time "buy-in" fee plus an annual fee, which CLC staff use to purchase and maintain collections in these areas. Participating libraries meet periodically - usually monthly or quarterly - to exchange or "rotate" packets of materials. Thus, the materials make a "circuit" around participating libraries, providing a continuously updated selection at each location. This program is particularly popular with smaller libraries and those with limited non-print budgets.

Here are the basics for each type of circuit. Swap schedules for various circuits around the state appear below.

VIDEO on DVD

• 30 titles in each packet
• monthly rotation
• $250 annually per packet
• $250 setup charge (First year requires $250 setup plus $250 annual fee for a total $500 per packet)

AUDIO on cassette

• 30 titles in each packet
• quarterly rotation
• $250 annually per packet
• no setup charge

AUDIO on CD

• 25 titles in each packet
• quarterly rotation
• $250 annually per packet
• $500 setup charge (First year requires $500 setup plus $250 annual fee for a total $750 per packet)

Playaway audiobooks are pocket-size and preloaded for people who just want to press Play and go. The collection includes more than 200 titles - new fiction, literary classics, books for kids, how-tos, humor, etc. Contact Pattie Noren at pnoren@ctlibrarians.org for more information.
