InfoAnytime May Madness Winners Announced - Congratulations to the 1st Annual InfoAnytime Challenge Champions, Manchester Community College & Prosser Public Library! What a tournament! Drama, excitement, upsets, surprise comebacks - the 2007 InfoAnytime May Madness Challenge had it all!
|
The staff at Manchester Community College library are pleased to be named "2007 InfoAnytime Challenge Champions." So, what was the secret of MCC's wild success? |
- Sent out "all-points bulletins" emails to professors and staff
- Placed InfoAnytime "take-home cards" by library computers
- Talked it up with patrons checking out
- And introduced it to new students who were on campus for orientation

Bloomfield's Prosser Public Library won the "Best Transcript" category. The staff had a special meeting to pore over transcripts, evaluate, and vote on what they thought was their best transcript. |
The transcript they chose and submitted began with the question, "What are four ways to subdivide plankton?"
Library staff all over the state pulled out all the stops while competing for this title. The competition was stiff and CLC and the InfoAnytime Steering Committee are thrilled to congratulate the staff and patrons at all InfoAnytime libraries. Most importantly, we hope everyone had fun learning about and marketing InfoAnytime, as well as rooting for their favorite team! Until next year ... "Got questions? Try InfoAnytime."

About InfoAnyTime
WHAT IS IT?
InfoAnyTime is a real-time, web-based reference service that provides live librarians to assist students, faculty and the public in finding information to support their research.
InfoAnyTime is contracted through Tutor.com and allows students and patrons of the trial sites to connect to a professional librarian 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sessions are conducted via online chat, using pushing and co-browsing technology to display information found on the web and in the iCONN databases. Anyone with a web browser can access the service - there is no special software required.
In the summer of 2005, CLC's InfoAnyTime began coordinating with Bibliomation's AskYourLibrary.org, a similar virtual reference service contracted through OCLC serving primarily public libraries. The InfoAnyTime name was retained for the new combined service. By combining forces, together CLC and Bibliomation can offer virtual reference to public and academic libraries throughout Connecticut.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Users of the service click on the InfoAnyTime link on their library's web site, enter their name and email address (optional), and wait a few moments for a librarian to come online.
Professional, highly-trained librarians conduct reference interviews via online chat, and provide answers and further resources in the form of web sites and online database citations. These online resources appear directly on the user's screen, next to the chat session window. The user may interact both with the web sites provided and with the librarian until his/her question has been answered satisfactorily.
At the end of each session, both the participant and the reference librarians at the college receive transcripts of the session via email.
